What is the SDF (Sustainable Development Fee)

The Sustainable Development Fee (SDF) is a daily contribution collected by the Royal Government of Bhutan from all tourists to support the country’s long-term vision of responsible and meaningful tourism.

For Indian citizens, the SDF is INR 1,200 per person per night.
For international travelers, it is USD 100 per person per night.

By paying the SDF, you are not just a visitor—you are becoming a part of Bhutan’s larger vision. Your contribution directly supports the country’s commitment to environmental conservation, cultural preservation, free education, and healthcare for its citizens.

Bhutan is proudly the world’s only carbon-negative country, and through the SDF, you are part of Bhutan’s effort to protect its forests, promote clean energy, limit over-tourism, and keep its cultural heritage alive for future generations.

The SDF is USD 100 per night for adults from all countries except for India. Children aged between 6 years and who have not yet turned 12 are eligible to pay USD 50 per night. Children who have not yet turned 6 years old do not have to pay any SDF.

The SDF for Indian nationals (showing a valid Indian passport or Voter ID card) is Nu. 1,200 (or the equivalent amount in Indian rupees) per person, per night. Children aged between 6 years and who have not yet turned 12 are eligible to pay Nu./INR 600 per night. Children who have not yet turned 6 years old do not have to pay any SDF.
