🗓️ Day 1: Arrive in Paro – Transfer to Thimphu (1.5 hours)

Welcome to Bhutan!
Upon arrival at Paro International Airport, your personal guide and driver will greet you with a warm Bhutanese welcome. Begin your journey with a scenic drive to the capital city, Thimphu, passing rivers, forests, and traditional villages.

En Route Stop:

  • Tamchog Lhakhang – Visit this 15th-century temple and its historic iron chain bridge

In Thimphu:

  • Buddha Dordenma – One of the world’s largest Buddha statues with panoramic valley views
  • Memorial Chorten – A peaceful stupa where locals gather for daily prayers
  • Stroll along Craft Bazaar and Clock Tower Square to see Bhutanese art and textiles

Evening Option:

🗓️ Day 2: Thimphu – Dochula Pass – Punakha (3-hour drive)

After breakfast, drive to Punakha, Bhutan’s historic winter capital nestled in a subtropical valley.

Scenic Stop at Dochula Pass (3,100m):

  • 108 Druk Wangyal Chortens – Set against a backdrop of snow-capped peaks
  • Optional: Tea stop and visit to Druk Wangyal Lhakhang

In Punakha:

  • Chimi Lhakhang (Fertility Temple): A short hike through rice paddies leads to this iconic temple dedicated to Drukpa Kunley, Bhutan’s “Divine Madman”
  • Punakha Dzong: A breathtaking riverside fortress at the confluence of Pho Chhu and Mo Chhu rivers. Often considered Bhutan’s most beautiful dzong.

🗓️ Day 4: Paro – Hike to Tiger’s Nest Monastery (Taktsang)

Today is the spiritual and scenic highlight of your trip—a pilgrimage to Taktsang Monastery, also known as Tiger’s Nest.

Hike Details:

  • Duration: 4 to 5 hours round trip
  • Trail: Forests of pine and rhododendron, sacred prayer wheels, cliffside views
  • Altitude: 3,120m above sea level

Why it’s Special:
This iconic monastery clings to a cliff 900 meters above the valley floor. It’s believed Guru Padmasambhava flew here on the back of a tigress in the 8th century to meditate. The energy and views from the top are unforgettable.

Optional: Horse rides available for the first half of the trail.

Afternoon:

  • Return to Paro for lunch and rest
  • Visit a local farmhouse for cultural interaction and try homemade ara (local wine)
